Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service is a National Day of Service to honor Dr. King's commitment and contributions to the Civil Rights Movement and social justice. Join the Center for Civic Engagement and people nationwide as we serve our local community in Dr. King's memory.
Why We Serve
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, "Life's most persistent and urgent question is 'What are you doing for others?'"
Each year, people answer that question by coming together on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day to serve their neighbors and communities.
The MLK Jr. Day of Service is a part of United We Serve, the national call to service initiative. It calls for community members from all walks of life to work together to provide solutions to our most pressing national problems.
2026 Project
For 2026, we partnered with Project XV, the first voting rights museum of Illinois, for a day of service on January 23. Volunteers helped set up exhibits and celebrated the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. Stay tuned for next year's project!
