Students participating Alternative Weekends

Alternative Weekends

Alternative Weekends are a great opportunity for students to learn more about how to create positive social change through direct service and civic learning. The trips focus on the local and regional issues and allow students to become informed and engaged civic leaders.  Alternative Breaks provides 1 or 2 weekend service/civic learning trips per semester.

Weekend trips are typically within a 6-hour radius of campus, usually leaving Friday afternoon and returning Sunday afternoon. Approximately 10 to 15 students can participate, and the cost is typically $45. Scholarships are available.

Upcoming Opportunity

During the fall 2026, students will have the opportunity to become involved in the Bloomington- Normal community. This semester’s focus will be on community engagement and the literacy crisis. Alternative Breaks will be working with the Haunted Trail and WBRP Book Bike on October 17th. The WBRP Book Bike project will focus on assisting with book inventory at their two locations.
